Grocery Rescue Program

The first program of Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, since 1982

Our Grocery Rescue program distributes over 3,300,000 pounds of perishable goods annually that would otherwise be discarded.

The Foodbank’s fleet of trucks pick up perishable product (baked goods, dairy products, deli, meats and produce) at 62 store locations throughout Santa Barbara County every week. The product is transported in temperature-controlled vehicles and maintained in industrial size coolers and freezers where it is inspected daily until distributed to our nonprofit partners.

Program Impact

Food received through Grocery Rescue is an important daily resource that is often the Foodbank’s only source for items such as dairy and bread which are staple items for our nonprofit partners and programs.
