City College’s Wake Campus opened their first food pantry on Tuesday, Sept. 13, in a new collaboration with the main campus. The Santa Barbara Food Bank, a local non-profit, used various community resources to supply students with a selection of free food items.

Over the past year, it seems like prices for everything have gone up and with the holiday season approaching, many are struggling to make ends meet. The Santa Barbara County Food Bank is already seeing an increase in those needing food. “Over the past few months, we have seen an increase in the need for food and due to inflation and rising gas prices, those in our community with the lowest income have been hit the hardest and that’s where the food bank comes in to help,” said Patricia Aguirre, North County Community Engagement Coordinator for the Santa Barbara County Food Bank.

Noozhawk: Foodbank Launches Campaign to Prepare New Sharehouse for Opening

At the Sharehouse Festival, Sept. 17, Foodbank of Santa Barbara County has started a four-month public campaign to support its new South County facility in Goleta.
The Foodbank aims to raise $6 million by Dec. 31 to fully outfit the new facility to meet its purpose: to ensure all county residents have access to the healthy food they need whether that means low-income community members facing the daily hunger, or the entire community in case of a large-scale disaster.
