Foodbank of Santa Barbara County’s current facility is so small it frequently has to turn away food donations.

A non-profit agency which feeds tens of thousands of people in need a month on the Central and South Coasts needs some help itself, and is asking the community for support. Foodbank of Santa Barbara County has been handing out a record amount of food during the last few years due to the pandemic. But, it’s been frustrating for the the organization because they literally had to turn down some food donations because of a lack of adequate storage space.

LOMPOC, Calif. – The Santa Barbara County Foodbank hosted its 17th Lompoc Empty Bowls Community Fundraiser on Wednesday after a two-year hiatus.
The fundraiser was held at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center in Lompoc. People were served soup in over 400 colorful handmade bowls that participants were able to take home. Santa Barbara County Second District Supervisor Gregg Hart and Third District Supervisor Joan Hartmann participated in the soup serving. The fundraiser benefits Lompoc residents facing food hunger.

Event serves hundreds of supporters and raises about $60,000 for the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County

The empty bowls were filled again Wednesday after a two-year hiatus in Lompoc. The 17th Lompoc Empty Bowls, a Foodbank of Santa Barbara County fundraiser, had been planned for late March 2020, but it was canceled days beforehand because of the COVID-19 lockdown. The Lompoc event also skipped 2021, setting the stage for a midsummer return in 2022.
