Campaign for a
Hunger-Free Tomorrow

YOU MADE IT HAPPEN!

We have some BIG news to share…

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to your support we have successfully completed the campaign to purchase and modify our new Sharehouse facility in Goleta! We expect to open the Sharehouse to the public in Fall 2023.

Now the real work begins!

The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County must replace our deficient south county warehouse with one that has the capacity to accommodate the local need for daily and emergency food distributions. We need to be able to distribute food in a timely way to feed our community’s hungriest families, seniors and children.

Our challenge has not been a shortage of food, but a lack of warehouse space.

INADEQUATE
WAREHOUSE SPACE

Our current 9,000 square foot warehouse can only store 15% of the food required to
serve our area.

LACK OF
REFRIGERATION SPACE

32,000 pounds of fresh produce is turned away every week because we don’t have adequate refrigeration space.

HIGHER
COSTS

Trucking from north county creates higher costs and inefficiencies.

UNPREPARED
FOR DISASTER

If a disaster closes highways 101 or 154, there would be no south county emergency food storage.

THE SOLUTION:

A New South County Warehouse

Our new food hub will be a nutrition and education space for the entire community, including individuals and our partner nonprofit organizations. The warehouse will accommodate food services operations, where people can receive or donate food. The office building will serve as a community meeting space for our nutrition education programs.

After an extensive search, we have identified a 57,000-square-foot warehouse with an attached 20,000-square-foot office building in Goleta.

The new warehouse will be able to store more than 750,000 pounds of food, making nearly 585,000 meals available for immediate distribution.

Your participation provided the support needed to purchase and retrofit the new warehouse and office building.

Like everything we have accomplished since 1982, we looked to dedicated community members to help us achieve this goal. Your support will better equip our neighbors and community to recover from crises and enjoy all the benefits of a healthier future.
