Girls Inc. opens public food pantry

Fresh fruits and vegetables, bread, pastries, canned goods, kitchen staples and a variety of frozen dinners can be found in the new Girls Inc. of Carpinteria Food Pantry at 5315 Foothill Road in Carpinteria. Stationed near the campus’s main entry, the pantry is stocked twice per week with leftovers from Albertsons – food that is between the “best by” and “sell by” dates – and all items, including refrigerated and frozen foods, are available to anyone 24-hours per day.

“Grass Roots” at The Farmacy Raises over $10k for the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County

Santa Barbara, Calif. (January 24, 2022) — The local cannabis industry raised over $10k to fight food insecurity in Santa Barbara County during a holiday fundraiser hosted by The Farmacy. The month-long “Grass Roots” campaign in December 2021, directed holiday shoppers to purchase local brands in order to give back 5 percent of purchases to The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County. Sales of Autumn Brands, Pacific Stone Brand and Glass House Farms — all CARP Growers member farms in Carpinteria Valley — contributed to the $10,192 donation that was matched by The Farmacy.

Foodbank’s Empty Bowls Event Raises Awareness

On December 5, 700 supporters turned out for a creative, COVID-modified version of The Foodbank’s popular Empty Bowls annual fundraiser, this time held outside at The Foodbank’s Santa Barbara warehouse. The sold-out event raised funds and significant awareness about The Foodbank’s incredibly valuable programs that provide healthy groceries, including lots of fresh produce, and nutrition education to low-income residents.
