Sharehouse Campaign!

A New South County Warehouse

Our new food hub will be a nutrition and education space for the entire community, including individuals and our partner nonprofit organizations. The warehouse will accommodate food services operations, where people can receive or donate food. The office building will serve as a community meeting space for our nutrition education programs.

Here’s why the Sharehouse will transform the health of Santa Barbara County:

  • The Foodbank currently turns away 32,000lbs of fresh produce from the L.A. Wholesale Produce Market every week! With the Sharehouse, we’ll be able to share that healthy food with our neighbors facing hunger.
  • More individuals sought help from the Foodbank this fall than we’ve seen since the first quarter of the COVID crisis.
  • Inflation continues to rock many individuals and families, with little hope on the horizon. Surging prices and shortages of basic staples hit our lowest income neighbors the hardest.
  • We served 1,050 families (over 5,000 individuals) in three hours at our Thanksgiving distributions. Families arrived in line at 5am to get food, and some were turned away because food resources ran dry.
  • The Sharehouse will ensure that EVERYONE in the county has enough food in case of major disasters. This includes those who may not expect to rely upon the Foodbank for help.
